A Chairman's Welcome
11 December 2017
Dear Members and Friends of the British Business Club Düsseldorf
May I wish you a warm welcome to the British Business Club Düsseldorf (BBCD) website to all our members, friends, sponsors and visitors. You can find out a lot about our club by exploring our website, viewing our club brochure here and seeing what events we are planning and have held. Nearly all of our events are open to non-members. If you are a non-member and wish to go on our mailing list for news and event, just drop us a line on the enquiry form at the bottom of our website.
We have had some very enjoyable events over the last couple of months. The Portuguese wine and food evening entitled Reynolds: A British Family in Portugal and Mouchão was hosted by Carlos Quintas at his Portuguese wine cellar in the Altstadt on Friday 6 October. We all came away knowing a lot more about Portugal and its wines and sampled a dozen very interesting red and white varieties. Carlos has a wealth of knowledge about Portuguese wines and the well-known wine expert and writer, Jancis Robertson, has often relied on his expertise when exploring this subject.
Our last networking lunch of the year was held on 27 October at the Hotel Nikko, when we had three speakers.
There was a fascinating visit to the Gerresheimer Glassworks in Essen on Friday 10 November to see how the company makes bottles for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and drinks industries. We were not allowed to take photos in the plant, but you can see us in a photo at the entrance.
We held a dinner on 14 November at the Hotel Nikko with Dr Henning Beck, a biochemist, neuroscientist and “science slammer”, as our guest speakers. He enlightened us about how the brain functions and was inundated with questions at the end of his talk.
Our annual Christmas party was held at the Kosaido Golf Club on Saturday 2 December. A reception in the entrance hall with welcome drinks and background music from our Live Band Dr. Martin Swing set the tone for a super Christmas party. Kosaido’s open fire place dining room provided a perfect atmosphere for a delicious classic British Christmas three-course dinner which was served punctuated by five Christmas poems, with the live band playing throughout the evening. You can see photos of the Christmas party below.
We had a tour for members and guests around the Lush Handmade Cosmetics production plant in the South of Düsseldorf on 13 December. The company has been in the news lately and has brought a lot of new jobs to Düsseldorf:
Please put into your diary for 2018 and see also our events section of the website:
Our first events next year will be the Burns’ Night celebrations at the Industrie Club Düsseldorf on 9 February, full details to be confirmed soon, and a dinner with a speaker from the Hilden-based company, Qiagen, details still to be confirmed.
Our Business Networking Lunches will be held on Friday 23 February 2018, Friday 27 April 2018 and Friday 29 June 2018 at the Hotel Nikko. We welcome up to three speakers for these networking events, so please let us know if you would like this opportunity.
Frohe Weihnachten und einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr!

Social Events & Activities
At the British Business Club we offer an array of social events throughout the year from traditional British events for the entire family to Charity Receptions and friendly sport matches.
The Club also offers great opportunity to meet a variety of new people from different businesses. Join the club and exchange ideas, find out more about Business in Germany, find new partners and clients or even friends.
Of course the Club can be a comforting link with home as it can be difficult living abroad especially if you are not fluent in German yet. The Club allows you to meet up with others finding themselves in a similar situation and others who have experienced it in the past. Traditional events like Burn’s Night bring a little bit of British tradition to Düsseldorf.
