Annual Cricket Match between Christ Church and the BBCD 2017
Once again we were lucky with the weather for our cricket match with only two short showers interrupting the game. Otherwise we were blessed with quite a lot of sunshine. After winning the toss twice the BBCD went into bat first.
The BBCD put up a good fight and managed to get 91 runs from the 20 overs. Our best bats men did some brilliant batting including a couple of sixes. We were one man short and our Chairman Brian Hicks volunteered to go out and bat at very short notice and did very well.
During this time our sandwich ladies organised by Louisa were turning out one of the best spreads of sandwiches that we have ever had. During the half time break it was amazing to see how quickly these disappeared with the Bacon, Lettuces and Tomato sandwiches seeming to be the firm favourite. The Church ladies also put on a fine show of scones and cakes which disappeared just as quickly as the sandwiches.
The committee of the BBCD very kindly sponsored the beer and Pimms as well as all the food and the hog roast afterwards so this was an exceptional day.
After the break the Church went into bat and put up a good running score beating our 91 runs in their 15th over. One again the Church has retained the Mulvany cup so we must make a very determined effort next year.
After the match we returned to the grounds of the Church where we had an excellent and very tasty pig roast with plenty of crackling. After this delicious meal there was a Rock band `The Faltenrock ́ which was organised by John from the Church. This is an amateur band that put on a very good show indeed and later in the performance quite a few people got into the mood and danced.
All in all a superb day that will be remembered. Once again our thanks go to the committee of the BBCD who financed the event and all the helpers who put so much effort into the day.
We look forward to many more Cricket matches in the years to come.
